The press conference is held by President Alan Richmond after the murder of Walter Sullivan's wife comes to light. Sullivan has been the President's long-time friend and supporter. In order to protect Sullivan from scandal and shame, and to leave no doubt of his own innocence in the murder, Richmond speaks emotionally and sheds false tears for all to see. It is a turning point for Luther, who normally keeps to himself. Realizing the President's dishonesty and the cover-up emanating from the White House, Whitney is determined to bring down the President of the United States.
