At the Sullivan Mansion during the course of the initial FBI investigation, conflicting clues are found. The investigators believe there is a cover-up as though the scene of the crime has been sanitized. The coroner reports that Mrs. Sullivan had suffered multiple injuries prior to her death. She had severe trauma to the nose, bruises and lacerations on her face, and on the area around her neck are the tell-tale signs of strangulation.

Take a look at the items that the FBI found and the items that are reported missing according to Walter Sullivan's deposition. Keep in mind there has been a cover up and some evidence is questionable.

A bullet was found lodged in the victim's chest which was deemed the cause of her death. However, a bullet hole was found on the wall directly behind her but no bullet was found to match that impression. After the investigation is over and Walter Sullivan begins to assess his financial losses, he discovers that scissors are missing from his bedroom. The investigators speculate that the pair of scissors could have been used during the theft but were not used as a weapon during the murder.

Another object that is missing from Walter Sullivan's bedroom is a gold platted letter opener. The letter opener was originally located on a small table in close proximity to where the corpse was found. Investigators speculate that it was removed during the cover-up. It is rumored that Walter Sullivan owns a hand gun but this has never been substantiated. This information comes from an FBI informant who was questioned during a routine investigation of possible leads.
